Respawn discusses plans for hitboxes, Apex Lege...

Today Respawn has released the very first significant balancing patch for Apex Legends, an update that carries tweaks which are meaningful to two of the most powerful guns in the game, the Peacekeeper and the Wingman, and which lays out a plan for changing the various hitboxes of three characters. The big takeaways from this update of Apex Legends:- 1. The Wingman now fires very slowly and is much less accurate when hip firing (“Our adjustments are attempting to move it into the hand space cannon and away from full auto Deagle.”) 2. The Peacekeeper rechambers much less quickly based on the equipped shotgun bolt. 3. Both the Peacekeeper and the Wingman spawn less frequently. 4. Caustic’s traps are a bit more heavily equipped and powerful. 5. Energy ammo is much more abundant. 6. Respawn will adjust the hitbox sizes of Caustic, Gibraltar, and Pathfinder at the starting of Season 1. No new characters, weapons, or other content was revealed in this major announcement. However, along with the patch notes, the studio took the right opportunity to share some of its philosophy around the balance, laying the groundwork for what to expect in the next updates to come. The studio also shared an important key detail around how it thinks about the weapon balance change. The goal of Respawn is not to make every other gun equally usable but to deliberately build the differences of power between the weapons of the game in order to create meaningful, fun discrepancies. “Our goal is to have a creative power curve of weapons,” said Respawn. “‘Power curve’ only means that some of the weapons will be more common and weaker, while others will be rarer and stronger. Some of the weapons are intentionally much less powerful until fully purp’d [purple tier, level three] with attachments and hopups, while various other weapons on the bottom of the power curve are mostly your early game, better-than-melee, but-gotta-upgrade-out-of-ASAP weapons. We’ve seen some really good feedback from a lot of players about how to make these pistols even more exciting without losing out on the goal above that we are listening to. We will be continuing to watch player feedback and data and trying things out internally but for now, they will remain the same.” Finally, Respawn accepted the chorus of pleas anticipating Season 1 of Apex Legends and it is still-unofficial whereabouts. “We know you people are fired up for info on Apex Legends Season 1 and Battle Pass season,” wrote Jay Frechette, community manager of Respawn. “We still have some important work to do to get everything ready for prime time and would not be talking about it yet. There are many moving parts and coordination that go into launches and big announcements like this so please kindly be patient. We know the wait sucks but it is coming and ask that you all please be patient and coordinate with us.” You can check out all the patch notes for this new update on the official website of Apex Legends.
